AFDP Supports Sama Sama Games in Philippines

The Asian Football Development Project (AFDP) has lent its support to the 3rd Annual Sama Sama Games through the donation of 250 footballs to be used in the open-for-all tournament, which is organized by FundLife in Boracay, Philippines between May 8-11, 2014.

The Sama-Sama Games aim to help unify peoples, communities and divergent social groups from across Asia by promoting civic cohesion through the power of football. The annual event, backed by DHL, Havaianas and Gazasia, invites players from Football-for-development NGOs working in Asia's poorest communities to play alongside and cultivate authentic friendships with peers from top colleges in the Philippines.

"Sama Sama Games provide an excellent platform for youth from different backgrounds to interact and learn about each others' cultures through sport. AFDP is happy to support Sama Sama's cause and we wish them a successful tournament," HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, Chairman of AFDP, said.

"We're excited to work alongside values-driven partners to offer young people a transformational experience in one of Asia's most desirable locations" said Sama-Sama Games Co-Founder Marko Kasic.

The footballs were donated by One World Futbol to AFDP as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2013 in partnership with Asian Football Confederation (AFC). A number of other development programs for youth and women across Asia will also benefit from this donation.

The AFDP, launched in Jordan in January 2012, is a non-profit youth commission founded and chaired by Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, FIFA Vice-President representing Asia. With the support of its Official Partner PepsiCo, AFDP focuses its needs-based support on promoting social development through football across Asia, with a special emphasis on grassroots and youth development, advancing women's football and empowering women, as well as protecting and developing the game.

Jordan Football Association receives AFC Grassroots Award

The Jordan Football Association (JFA) has received the Grassroots Recognition Award presented by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

"In acknowledgement and recognition of your exemplary efforts to actively develop and promote Grassroots football, I am pleased and honored to reward Jordan Football Association for developing future key players," AFC President Sheikh Salman Al Khalifa said in a letter addressed to HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein who serves as President of JFA.

"We are proud that our hard work at the grassroots level in the past years is reaping results. On behalf of Jordan Football Association, I wish to express my gratitude and appreciation for the Asian Football Confederation for this honorable award," Prince Ali said.

"None of this would have been possible without the wisdom and foresight of the late Captain Mahmoud Al Jowhari, may he rest in peace, who laid the groundwork for the strategy that got us here. Allow me to dedicate this award to the memory of our beloved Jowhari," Prince Ali added.
