Madjid Bougherra has been rewarded for his fine form with Rangers and Algeria last season by being shortlisted for the coveted African Player of the Year award.The Gers defender has made the 17-man list for the trophy and is bidding to become the first Algerian to scoop the silverware in 23 years. But he faces stiff competition from three-times winner Samuel Eto'o, Chelsea's Didier Drogba and Sunderland new boy Asamoah Gyan.Manchester City pair Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor are also in contention for the award with the winner due to be announced in February.
