Ghana se convirtió en la última semifinalista de la CAN 2012 tras derrotar( 2-1) en la prórroga a Túnez. Fue otro partido agónico que se decidió por un fallo de blocaje del meta tunecino Mathlabouti que no desaprovechó Andre Ayew para hacer el 2-1 en el minuto 110. El partido fue igualado, aunque a Ghana se la aprecia mejor técnica en sus hombres. Mensah a los 10´ hizo el 91.-0, pero en el minuto 40 Khalifa, de cabeza, igualó el choque. En la segunda parte Ghana tuvo mejores ocasiones de gol, pero no entraron. En la prórroga no cambiaron demasiado las cosas hasta el gol decisivo de Ayew que vale una semifinal.

CAN 2012: Ghana derrota a Bostwana( 1-0) sin brillar
Debut de Ghana en la CAN 2012 y victoria sin brillo ante Bostwana( 1-0). Con la tremenda diferencia del nivel de jugadores entre ambas selecciones los "Black Stars" hicieron lo justo para sumar los tres puntos. Valió el gol de John Mensah( Lyon) en el minuto 25 que después sería expulsado a los 67´. A pesar de tener un hombre más en el campo Bostwana no creó demasiado peligro ante la meta ghanesa.

Ghana: Mensah: "Victory remains our target"
Ghana captain John Mensah has declared that the maximum points remain their prime target as they face the Desert Hawks of Sudan in a day two clash of the Orange CAN 2012 qualifiers on Sunday.
The Black Stars will be facing their Sudanese counterparts in their third meeting in less than two years, and Mensah, who has assumed the captain’s armband automatically following the unexpected international retirement of Stephen Appiah is upbeat about the team’s chances.
“Our target is the three points and we are poised to achieve our goal. We have been preparing feverishly in that regard and are leaving no stone unturned,” Mensah told Cafonline.com after the team’s training session at the El-Wak Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite, back-to-back victories in the recent meetings against the Desert Hawks, the Sunderland defenders reckons a tough outing.
“Sudan are no mean pushovers despite the fact that we beat them home and away the last time. They have a good team and we won’t allow any form of complacency in our game plan.”
“If they were an easy side, we could have beaten by a wider margin; but they are not. They are no easy teams in modern football and we can’t afford to underrate them either.”
The 27-year old missed out on the 3-0 win over Swaziland last month in Mbabane is hoping to play his part fully to spur the team to victory.
“I’m happy to be back and together with my colleagues, will play our hearts out for victory.”
The ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ as he is nicknamed is enjoying the current reign of stand-in coach Kwesi Appiah, following the departure of Milovan Rajevac.
“We (players) have good working relationship with Appiah. He has been with us for sometime and he knows the ins and outs of the team.
“I’m urging the fans to throng the stadium in their numbers to cheer us onto victory. The people of Kumasi have always stood by the team and we hope to make them happy with a convincing result.”

El ghanés John Mensah seguirá cedido en el Sunderland
John Mensah no va a volver a jugar esta temporada en el Lyon. El defensa central internacional de Ghana( 27 años) jugó cedido en el Sunderland la pasada campaña. Ahora, según publica el diario francés "Le Parisien", las negociaciones se han retomado entre los dos clubes para cerrar un nuevo préstamo con el Sunderland, los populares "Black Cats" de la Premier League.
